About

About me:
My name is Rachel, and rather obviously, I love to read.  Having been a long-time thrifter and acquirer-of-discards while working in libraries, I own a lot of books, the majority of which I’ve not yet read, though the allure of eBooks and library checkouts often draw me away from my overstocked shelves. I’ve also become an inveterate audiobook reader, sometimes listening for most of the day when not at work, where I’m an electronic resources librarian at a university library. As a bespectacled spinster with three cats and a flat, I really couldn’t be more of a librarian cliche, but that’s fine by me!

About my books:
When it comes to books, I’m nearly an omnivore. “Classics” were the staple of my schooldays, and I’ve still some inclinations that direction, but since college, my favorites tend to be on the genre spectrum. Science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and historical fiction–preferably a mix of two or more–predominate and in about that order. I still sample a few works of “literary fiction” on occasion, and I do love a good bit of non-fiction in a variety of fields. Graphic novels and non-fiction are a lot of fun, and I go through periods when I’m nearly as likely to read young adult or middle grade fiction as anything else.

What’s with the “nearly” in that earlier statement about being omnivorous? Well, business, self-help, and political commentary generally aren’t my thing, and neither is most fiction currently marketed as straightforward “romance” or “religious/inspirational,” though I’ve definitely got favorites who fall under either heading. But more often then there are the plot elements I usually avoid–like serial killers, which practically have their own sub-genre–but of course, I find myself trying new things all the time, so you never can tell.

About my reviews:
I haven’t yet established a reviewing format and style, but as I do so, I’ll try to explain it here. I intend to cross-post these, when necessary or useful, to LibraryThing, but at this point, I do not intend to do so on any other sites.
